Are you looking to Volunteer?
Cycling Without Age is a Volunteer organization. Volunteers support the CWA initiative by becoming a pilot for the trishaws, arrange rides and support all administrative functions. We welcome new members to join us to provide ‘the right to wind in your hair’ for the many senior citizens in our community where we bring smiles and laughter in the outdoors. Just head over to the contact page to express your interest.
Do you want to make a difference in the lives of seniors and the less abled individuals in return for personal satisfaction and fulfillment? We often take for granted the simple freedom of getting outside and enjoying our beautiful town. Many seniors and less abled individuals do not have this freedom, confined to their homes or care facilities, unable to be an active part of their community.
We recruit volunteers to be the trishaw bicycle drivers, or “pilots” as they are referred to. Rides will generally be 60 – 90 minutes long. The rides are not about going fast or far. You are able to volunteer as little or as much time as you wish. The trishaws have electric assist drive so a high level of fitness is not mandatory. You can always support CWA in various ways such as, maintenance, website, communications and outreach or admin support.
We will provide all the training you need, just need to bring a smile, energy and fun to drive the trishaw!
You can give the opportunity for someone to feel the wind in their hair, to experience our beautiful scenery and lively city, or to share a story while on the trishaw. We believe that we are the glue in our society building bridges between generations, reinforcing trust and respect.

I am taking my elderly neighbours out for a ride on the trishaw today. They were very excited when I asked them and showed them a picture of it. Donna, the wife exclaimed to her husband, “Norm we get to go somewhere!”…..last night we were talking to Norm and he said for the last 3 days he got up in the morning, made his way to the kitchen table sits down and says “What time do we get to leave”. So today is the day and we will be off at 09:30.
I have to let you know about the ride today. Honestly, by the end of the ride, my heart was so full it poured out my eyes. So emotional.
The ride was a 102-year-old (103 in December) lady and her 70 year old son. He set it up as a surprise for her just saying they were going to be outside so dress warmly. This lady walks 3-5 kms. every day along Beuna Vista picking up garbage. Up until the age of 90 (they made her stop) she baked dozens and dozens of cookies for the Schubert Center and delivered them on foot. She taught school in Armstrong for 41 years teaching grade one. Her students loved her! Lots of stories about her teaching….
I was just in awe-loved with her! We stopped for ice cream…
Best volunteer job ever!!!!!

It certainly was heartwarming to see the smiles everywhere when we’re doing the mini rides.

They did say they had a wonderful time. There was a lot of laughter and storytelling. Irene has been out once already and I’m sure we’ll be back with Katie. What a wonderful organization to belong to!

I just thought I would let you know that I am going to be leaving for school soon and so I probably won’t have enough time for another ride before I leave. I went on 3 rides with passengers as well as 2 training rides and 2 practice rides and each of them was lovely. It feels great to give back to the community and help make peoples’ day better. Thank you for including me on your team of pilots and for giving these memories. It was great meeting you. Hopefully next time I am in Vernon I can get some more rides in.
Nate
